Saint Mary’s is the new No. 1 in this week’s Other Top 25. The top nine teams remained with small movement among them.
The Gaels are 16-3 on the season and are off to a 6-0 start in WCC play. They are the only team in the conference with fewer than two conference losses. They won at Pepperdine in their lone game this past week.
SMC has a big week ahead with a game at home against San Francisco on Thursday and at Washington St. on Saturday.
Randy Bennett’s club ranks 27th in KenPom and the NET and 28th in BartTorvik. It is the highest ranked mid-major in each of these metrics.
Memphis dropped one spot to No. 2 and came one point behind Saint Mary’s. The Tigers sit at 14-4 and hold a 4-1 record in the American. They split their two games this week with a loss at Temple and a win at Charlotte.
Penny Hardaway’s team is 38th in KenPom, 42nd in the NET and 47th in Torvik.
Utah State also dropped one spot from second to third. New Mexico held steady at four, and VCU jumped up to No. 5.
The top 10 was rounded out by UC Irvine, San Diego St., Drake, Boise St. and Washington St.
The Cougars jumped six spots. They bounced back from consecutive losses with wins over San Diego and Portland last week. Wazzu has wins over Bradley, Nevada, Boise St. and San Francisco on its resume. WSU is 73rd in Torvik, 79th in the NET and 87th in KenPom.
Four teams joined the ranking that were not ranked last week. George Mason came in at 19. Princeton and UNLV tied for 22nd with Liberty, and UTEP rounded out the ranking at 25. They replaced George Washington, Samford, Rhode Island and Louisiana Tech.
