Final Philadelphia 76ers player grades: Ricky Council IV

Final Philadelphia 76ers player grades: Ricky Council IV

The 2023-24 season is in the books for the Philadelphia 76ers and now is the time to look back on the season that was for each player. The Sixers finished 47-35 and as the No. 7 seed as they had to battle through a tough season injury-wise, but there were some good moments for everybody on the roster.

Up next is undrafted rookie Ricky Council IV who made a name for himself with his tenacious play on the floor. He continued to improve as an offensive player–especially, as a 3-point shooter–and the Sixers were able to continue to receive strong play from him on both ends of the floor. Philadelphia granted him with a standard deal in April for his efforts.

Here is a quick review of Council IV’s maiden season with the Sixers:

32 games

5.4 points

1.4 rebounds

0.5 assists

0.3 steals

48.2% overall field goal percentage

37.5% from deep

74.6% free-throw percentage

11 regular season games

23.1 points

5.4 rebounds

2.5 assists

0.5 steals

46.7% overall field goal percentage

35% from deep

80% free-throw percentage

Two games stand out when looking back at Council IV’s season: Feb. 10 at the Washington Wizards and April 7 at the San Antonio Spurs. The rookie had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a road win over the Wizards and then he didn’t play for the first three quarters before coming up with 11 points and four steals while playing the entire fourth quarter and two overtimes in the win over the Spurs. He always stayed ready for when his number was called and made an impact more often than not.

Council IV took advantage of his time in the G League as he continued to show off an improved jumper and an aggressiveness that will serve him well in the future.

It’s obvious that Council IV had a successful rookie season. The standard deal he received is not guaranteed for the 2024-25 season, but one has to figure that the Sixers will keep him around when considering what he can bring to the table.

Final grade: A
