Last year, we saw Caitlin Clark and Iowa beat Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks at the Final Four, setting up a national title game against LSU and Angel Reese. Monday night, Clark and Reese faced off again in an Iowa-LSU rematch. USC and UConn followed that up in the Elite Eight, giving us a JuJu Watkins-Paige Bueckers showdown which lived up to the hype. Women’s basketball will now give us a Caitlin Clark-Paige Bueckers matchup at the Women’s Final Four on Friday night, another prime-time, box-office matchup. The winner of that game will probably play South Carolina, a hefty favorite over North Carolina State in the other Final Four semifinal. Women’s basketball has so many luminous stars right now, giving sports fans so much to choose from. Women’s basketball is growing and thriving, and the great thing about it from a USC vantage point is that the Trojans were at the center of the conversation thanks to JuJu Watkins. The main story on Monday was not the Men’s Final Four, or Major League Baseball, or the NBA, or the NHL. It was women’s hoops. People couldn’t stop talking about it. Let’s absorb that fact and take satisfaction in the reality that USC was part of this big-stage moment in a growing sport with a bright future:
