Every Big Ten basketball program’s NCAA Tournament Final Four history

The 2024 Final Four was finalized Sunday evening with No. 11-seed NC State’s improbable win over No. 4-seed Duke. The Wolfpack advanced along with tournament favorite UConn, No. 1-seed Purdue and No. 4-seed Alabama.

A lot has been made about the Big Ten not having a national champion since Michigan State in 2000. The Spartans have been close since, as has Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin and now Purdue. Maryland, now a Big Ten school, also won a national title in 2002 as a member of the Big East.

There is constant arguing over which conference reigns supreme. The Big Ten has a strong argument during the regular season, though the conference is commonly known for its postseason failures. The SEC is still considered a football conference despite Kentucky’s stature and the recent success of Alabama, Tennessee and others. It’s an argument between the Big Ten and the ACC, with the ACC likely having the upper hand thanks to Duke and North Carolina’s excellence.

Purdue making a run to this year’s Final Four could be something that begins to shift that narrative. It is the program’s first Final Four trip since 1980, and the Big Ten’s first since Michigan State in 2019.

As the event approaches, here is a look at every Big Ten team’s Final Four history and last appearance — including the conference’s new members:
