DETROIT, Mich. – The IUPUI women’s basketball team fell on the road to Detroit Mercy on Thursday evening, 64-59. Jazmyn Turner and Tahlia Walton both totaled double-digit points to lead the Jaguars’ offense.
Detroit Mercy (16-14, 9-10 HL) started the game off on a 7-0 run, holding the Jags scoreless until the 5:20 mark when Katie Davidson put IUPUI on the board with a layup. After the Titans took a 15-8 lead, IUPUI finished the first quarter on a 6-0 run to pull within one at 15-14.
The Titans outscored the Jags by one in the second quarter to hold a two-point lead at the half, 34-32. IUPUI cut the lead back down to one, outscoring Detroit Mercy 15-14 in the third quarter.
With a close game going into the fourth quarter, the Jags shot just 38.5 percent in the fourth quarter while the Titans shot 46.7 percent to take the five-point victory.
Despite falling, the Jags forced the Titans to commit 14 turnovers with IUPUI turning those into 12 points.
Turner led the Jags with 13 points and seven rebounds while Walton added 10 points. Abby Wolterman totaled nine points with six rebounds while Katie Davidson added eight points.
The Jags will now close out the regular season on the road at Oakland on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.
