Women’s Basketball to Meet Texas Tech and Boise State in South Point Classic


PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women’s basketball team (3-2, 0-0 B1G) will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the South Point Classic from Friday, Nov. 24-25. The Scarlet Knights will face Texas Tech (5-0, 0-0 Big 12) (Nov. 24) and Boise State (4-0, 0-0 Mountain West) (Nov. 25) during the event with both contests tipping off at 9:30 p.m. ET on FloHoops.  

Last Time Out 

Rutgers fell to Fairfield (3-1, 0-0 MAAC), 78-54, on Monday night at Jersey Mike’s Arena.  

Chyna Cornwell led the way off the glass for the Scarlet Knights, grabbing a game-high 13 boards. The senior center also added seven points for RU.  

Destiny Adams and Jillian Huerter led the way for Rutgers in scoring, recording nine points apiece.  

Antonia Bates also added a season-high eights points, including two three-pointers. The sophomore also recorded three assists and two rebounds.   

It’s Destiny 

Destiny Adams continues to make her presence known on the court for the Scarlet Knights, showing off a powerful and versatile style of play. 

Adams has accumulated a Big Tean-leading 55 rebounds through six games. She also recorded back-to-back double-doubles in her first two games “On The Banks.” 

Adding to her game on defense, Adams sits second in the conference with 13 steals.  

Strong Off the Boards 

The Scarlet Knights are picking up where they left off last season with a strong presence on the boards.  

In the second game of the season against Wagner, RU beat their previous high off the glass from last season, grabbing 55 boards. The squad has outrebounded its opponent in four five of six contests this slate.  

Rutgers has had at least two players reach 10+ rebounds in two of six contests so far in the 2023-24 campaign. With 259 rebounds so far, Rutgers currently paces the Big Ten off the glass.  

Copper Comes Home 

Rutgers has officially announced the addition of three-time WNBA All-Star and Scarlet Knights alum, Kahleah Copper, to round out its 2023-24 coaching staff. Copper played for Rutgers from 2012 to 2016, was picked No. 7 overall in the 2016 WNBA draft and has since gone on to be a WNBA Champion, WNBA Finals MVP and one of the league’s most dynamic players.
