The UConn men’s basketball team is on its way to Las Vegas for the Sweet 16, the first time the Huskies have made it this far in the NCAA Tournament under Dan Hurley.

But before they headed off, Hurley brought in the legendary Jim Calhoun, who guided the Huskies to the Sweet 16 a whopping 13 times in his 26 years as head coach, to speak with the team.

Calhoun had some complimentary things to say, including telling the team that he thinks they’re more than good enough to get through this regional and move on to the Final Four for what would be the sixth time in program history.

“You’ve only just begun. Right now, you’re 80 minutes from Houston,” Calhoun said in a video posted to UConn Men’s Basketball’s Instagram account. “You’re going on a weekend trip, 80 minutes. If I were you, I could smell it. You know, guaranteed, 50 years in basketball. Some guys I’ve had up here, you know, the teams I had… you’re more than good enough to do it.

“Bring yourself and bring everyone else with you. You’ve got something special going on. I can feel it. When you are this good this late now, it’s a great sign. You ain’t sagging. You’re ready to fly. Let’s get the 80 minutes. Let’s bring it in.”

The Huskies then broke down practice, and before they know it they’ll be at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, two wins away from hanging another Final Four banner at Gampel.

UConn will face No. 8 seed Arkansas at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday and will then get the winner of No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 Gonzaga on Saturday. Tip time is yet to be announced.
