Tar Heels set in-home visit with portal target

Hubert Davis says UNC basketball will ‘always have a presence’ at MSG

In one week of the offseason, UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis has identified two targets so far out of the transfer portal, with more expected to come. But already the Tar Heels are getting set for a visit with one target.

After contacting former Towson guard Nick Timberlake earlier this week, the Tar Heels are getting set for a visit with him. Per Stockrisers, North Carolina and Ohio State have scheduled in-home visits with Timberlake for this week.

It’s still early in the process with the transfer portal but things move very fast and teams don’t want to fall behind.

The Buckeyes aren’t the only team that UNC will have to compete with to land Timberlake. Since entering the portal,  he’s heard from programs such as Oregon, Butler, Xavier, and Memphis among others.

He averaged 17.7 points per game while shooting 45% from the field and 42.3% from the 3-point line last season. He’s a two-time first-team All-CAA selection.

The Tar Heels are expected to have a big need at guard with the pending decisions of Caleb Love and R.J. Davis looming. Love is likely on his way out, whether that be going the pro route or transferring, while Davis is more likely a player that would return for another year.
