Doc Rivers wants to get young Jaden Springer more minutes for Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers have won seven games in a row and they have won two games in blowout fashion. In a March 12 win over the Washington Wizards, they were able to have the game in hand early which allowed young Jaden Springer some extended garbage time. He earned praise from his teammates afterward.

The same happened on Friday in a 121-82 win over the Charlotte Hornets. The Sixers had the game in hand and Springer was able to get on the floor and play 7:03 of garbage time. The second-year guard out of Tennessee had two points, a steal, and an assist during that time.

Springer still has a long way to go to really crack this team’s rotation, but coach Doc Rivers is going to take any chance he has to make sure he gets minutes.

“I just like him playing,” Rivers told reporters. “The more minutes we can get this kid. We keep talking about his defense, his ability to finish around the basket, so it’s good.”

Springer has had some really good moments in the G League thus far, and on Thursday, he had 33 points for the team’s affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He still just isn’t ready to take over any minutes from the likes of Shake Milton or De’Anthony Melton just yet. He still needs time to grow and develop,

That is why the G League is so important for somebody like Springer. He can head down to Delaware and he can shuffle back and forth between the Sixers and the Blue Coats. That is when he will get the court reps he needs to continue his development.
