Dontrez Styles to enter transfer portal

Dontrez Styles talks future with Tar Heels

The UNC basketball program will have a third departure in the transfer portal, just under a week since the season was officially over.

Per Joe Tipton of On3, Kinston native Dontrez Styles is expected to enter the transfer portal and find a new program to continue his college career. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound small forward was a four-star recruit as part of UNC’s two-man 2021 recruiting class.

He played in 30 games in his freshman season, averaging 5.8 minutes per game for Hubert Davis. But in 2022-23, he appeared in just 15 games and averaged 5.9 minutes per game. He did miss time in December with a broken bone in his hand but it felt like Styles fell down the pecking order in terms of Davis’ bench rotation.

Styles was ranked No. 66 overall, No. 13 small forward and the No.2 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings for the 2021 class.

He joins Tyler Nickel and Justin McKoy as UNC players to enter the transfer portal after a disappointing season.
