CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College women’s basketball players Molly Buck, Caydee Kirkham and Kaalyn Petersen were selected to all-American Rivers Conference women’s basketball teams that were announced earlier on Wednesday. Kirkham and Petersen garnered first-team honors for the Kohawks while Buck was named to the honorable mention squad. Wartburg took home two of the major awards, earning the MVP (Sara Faber) and Coach of the Year (Bob Amsberry) honors while Simpson’s Cassie Nash was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Caydee Kirkham – First Team
Kirkham, the lone freshman to earn a spot on either all-conference squad, put together an incredible first season with the Kohawks. Caydee was ultra-efficient all season while leading the Kohawk attack, averaging 13.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Kirkham, who ranked third in assists and ninth in scoring, was the league’s leading 3-point shooter, finishing with a 45.1 percent average. She also ranked fourth in the A-R-C in field goal percentage, posting an impressive 54.1 mark. Kirkham broke into the record book numerous times throughout the season but made her biggest headline in a win at Luther, setting a new school record with 37 points. The Carthage, Illinois native becomes the first Coe women’s basketball freshman to earn first-team all-conference honors since Aleena Hobbs achieved the feat in 2015.
Kaalyn Petersen $- First Team
Petersen is earning her first all-conference selection following her junior season after picking up honorable mention honors at the conclusion of the 2021-22 campaign. Coe’s double-double machine was an offensive force throughout the year, averaging 13.9 points and 10.2 boards per contest. The Davenport native registered 10 double-doubles during the season and finished top 70 in the country and first in the A-R-C. Petersen was second in the league in rebounding and blocked shots, fifth in field goal percentage and sixth in scoring. She turned in an epic performance that earned her National Player of the Week honors in Coe’s win at Simpson, scoring 29 points while pulling down a single-game school record 22 rebounds. The junior forward ended the season with back-to-back double-doubles, posting games of 24 and 10 and 23 and 13 in the final two games for Coe.
