Lady Bulldogs Fall Short 60-55 To Howard

ORANGEBURG, SCโ€”Lovely Sonnier tossed in the games only double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but as South Carolina State dropped 55-60 setback to visiting Howard in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play Monday (Feb.27th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

South Carolina State falls to 3-25 overall, 2-11 in the MEAC, while Howard improves to 13-13 overall, 9-4 in the league.

Nicole Gwynn added 17 points and four rebounds, while Aja Smith added nine (9) points in the loss.

Meanwhile, Howard had three players in double figures with Aziah Hudson with 15 points, while teammates Destiny Howell chipped in 14 points and six rebounds and Nyla Cooper 11 in the win.

Next up: South Carolina State returns to action on Thursday (March 2nd) versus North Carolina Central in an MEAC doubleheader with the women beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men in an 7:30 p.m. start at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

2023 MEAC TOURNAMENT:ย The 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s and women’s basketball tournament is scheduled for March 8-11, 2023, at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. The annual MEAC Basketball Tournament moved to Norfolk in 2013 after spending the previous four years in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 2009 through 2012.
