Tobias Harris gives advice to Matisse Thybulle, Sixers before deadline

BOSTON–The Philadelphia 76ers are just over 24 hours away from the NBA trade deadline and there are a lot of talks and reports surrounding them as they look to make some moves to upgrade their roster to make a title run.

Two names that have popped up the most for the Sixers are Matisse Thybulle and Furkan Korkmaz. Thybulle has been dangled in order to add more depth while Korkmaz has expressed a desire to play and be moved before the deadline.

Tobias Harris, who has been traded four times at the deadline and five times overall in his career, knows a thing or two about how to handle the deadline. He has some advice for Thybulle and how to deal with everything that comes with this time.

“Just stay in the moment of what you can control right now and be ready for whatever’s to come,” said Harris. “It’s the nature of the business and just the game of basketball. I always just tell him whatever’s to happen, you’re gonna be fine because you got yourself to this position by doing what you’ve been doing and just staying ready for whatever it is and if it’s here or elsewhere, you got to be ready for your opportunity and your moment. So that’s always my biggest advice.”

With that being said, it can be tough for anybody to handle seeing their name in the headlines and the rumors that come with trade season.

“It’s for sure unsettling and nerve-wracking, but at the end of the day, if we’re being honest, you can’t do (expletive) about it,” Harris added. “If your name is in rumors, most time, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. All you can really do is control your own moment and where you are.”

For Thybulle and Korkmaz, they have their names in the headlines, but they also have to focus on the team and help them win basketball games as well. That is where the focus has to be at the moment.

“Nothing has happened as of yet, but if something does happen, then you gotta be ready for whatever situation it is,” Harris finished. “If it’s staying here, be ready for us to make a playoff run, or if it’s somewhere else, and you get opportunity, just taking full advantage of it.”
