On a night where Iowa was honoring the life, legacy and importance of Chris Street with his family in attendance, the Hawkeyes made sure they found their way past Northwestern and into the winner’s circle, 86-70.

After trailing by as many as nine points, Payton Sandfort’s 3-pointer right before halftime pulled the Iowa Hawkeyes even with Northwestern at 39 apiece heading into the break.

That was a harbinger of things to come. The 6-foot-7 guard lit up Carver-Hawkeye Arena with 14 points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown after recess. He finished tied with a team-high 20 points.

Fittingly, he was joined by a terrific performance from Iowa forward Filip Rebraca who had 20 points as well. The 6-foot-9 forward scored eight of Iowa’s first 14 points and then 12 after halftime. He double-doubled with 10 rebounds.

As a team, Iowa shot 53.6% from the field, 45.5% from 3-point range and knocked down 12-of-13 free throws in the second half.

“I mean, we scored 47 (in the second half). We moved it. We shared it. We got into the bonus relatively early. We didn’t turn it over. I think it was a lot of guys that had to go ahead and make plays, more so than anything we were drawing up. It was just guys making plays, and I think they were comfortable doing that and I want them to be comfortable doing that,” Iowa head men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery said.

Iowa (14-8, 6-5 Big Ten) returns to action this weekend when it hosts No. 25 Illinois (16-6, 7-4 Big Ten) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT.

Before that, here’s the best photos from a special night inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
