UNC basketball commit has big weekend, passes 1,000-point milestone

Ian Jackson commitment is huge for Tar Heels

Despite no game for the UNC basketball program this past weekend, it still was in the spotlight as one commit had a huge two game stretch.

UNC commit Ian Jackson was phenomenal in back-to-back games this weekend, posting two double-doubles and surpassing the 1,000-point scoring mark for his career.

In the first game, Jackson had 27 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks in a double-OT win for Cardinal Hayes (NY). Then, he followed that up with 19 points, 11 assists and five rebounds and another win.

Jackson’s 1,000th point game in the second win of the weekend.

Jackson, who committed to UNC a few weeks ago, is ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the 247Sports class of 2024 rankings.

At 6-foot-6 and 170 pounds, Jackson will move into a perimeter role that will be very empty by the time he steps on campus. His versatility is one of the best parts of his game and he’ll be able to showcase that with the new small-ball and positionless basketball that head coach Hubert Davis pitched him.

“Coach Davis says he wants to use me to show everything in my game. He wants to use me so I can facilitate, so I can spread the floor, so I can defend, play in the post, and showcase everything.”

Jackson is part of a four-man class for Davis and the Tar Heels, including five-star guard Elliot Cadeau, four-star forward James Brown and four-star wing Drake Powell.
