Final shot comes up short; Rams fall to Bonnies, 61-58

Ace Baldwin Jr had a chance to tie the game as the final seconds ticked off the clock, but his three point attempt hit the rim just short.

The 61-58 loss to St. Bonaventure snapped a 6-game win streak for the Rams (16-6; 7-2 A10).

Baldwin finished the night with a team-high 15 points and 6 assists.

The first half was a physical contest that saw the Rams take 23-18 lead into the half.

A layup from Brandon Johns Jr at the 19:05 mark of the second half would give VCU their largest lead of the night at 9 points.

Johns would have a team-high 7 rebounds to go with his 7 points on the night.

The Bonnies clawed back and over the next 16 minutes the two teams would trade the lead 5 times—including two ties.

At the 3:26 mark in the second half, the Bonnies broke a 53-53 tie, and took the lead for the final time.

The Rams hot shooting over the last three games seemed to have cooled as they made just 2 of their 16 attempts from beyond the arc (13%), and only 10 of their 18 free throw attempts (55%).

Jalen DeLoach recorded his third double-double of the season with a 12 point and 12 rebound performance.

VCU will return to action on Tuesday, January 31st, as they travel to Davidson to take on the Wildcats. That game is set to tip at 7pm ET and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
