Eric Musselman is exhausted. Mentally exhausted.
Arkansas has had a chance four times this season to tie the game or win it in the final seconds with a 3-pointer. Not a one has gone down.
More tiring? Arkansas’ foul discprency versus its opponent.
Twice was Musselman asked officiating-related questions post-game. During the first, his exasperation with the officiating cancelled out the back-half of the question before his the incredulousness in his voice allowed a finish. The second question he flat said he wasn’t going to answer.
It’s not that Musselman is frustrated with the questions. He’s frustrated with being put in a position to have to answer them in the first place.
Still, the Razorbacks find themselves in a frustrating place at this point of the season, almost halfway through SEC play and with another tough loss.
Here’s what Musselman had to say afterwards in Waco on Saturday. Note: His remarks are paraphrased.
The one thing you always want from your basketball team is to play as hard as they possibly can. Anybody that was here walked away and saw a great basketball game. I feel for the locker room. They’re giving it all they have. This is a ranked team at home, coming off beating Kansas. We went with the halfcourt that i thought we executed with perfection, especially in the first half. I think they were 1 for 14 against it. Makhel Mitchell was supposed to be out a week-and-a-half to two-and-a-half weeks, he misses one game and suits up and gives us great minutes on a bad ankle. Anthony Black is extremely banged up. He continues to suit up and put forth an incredible effort. Ricky Council obiously with the minutes he’s played is banged up. Devo’s been bothered by stuff. Just really impressed with the guys’ effort playing through stuff. We gave ourselves a chance to win against a really, really good team. Free throws, exactly what we work on in the summer. Sometimes a shot doesn’t go and it’s tough to ask a guy who’s sat for that long. Execution in a lot of different areas. I thought we were good.
