Penn State’s Micah Shrewsberry laments Rutgers loss: ‘We played soft”

It was a thorough and complete performance from Rutgers men’s basketball on Tuesday night in a 65-45 loss at Rutgers. A performance that Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry certainly didn’t like.

Rutgers has now won three of their last four games and is 14-6 (6-3 Big Ten). This latest win was the embodiment of the Rutgers brand under head coach Steve Pikiell, with the defense and rebounding leading the way.

Defensively, it was a tremendous effort from Rutgers in limiting Penn State to 33.3 percent from the floor and just 4-of-26 from 3-point range. Rutgers was efficient on offense, shooting 46 percent.

I’m just disappointed in how we played defensively I thought we were really soft and they got whatever they wanted to.”

Shrewsberry was then asked during the press conference if there was anything else other than the “soft” effort from his team.

“Petite. I mean, like, I don’t know what to say. Like, they played grown-man basketball, no matter who was on our team, they took them to the post and they scored right? at some point in time. You got to stand up. At some point time you gotta have some pride. And right now we don’t have any pride,” Shrewsberry said.

“I told them that – like what I’m saying to you, I told them exactly this in the locker room. We need some pride -some prideful…
