Basketball Stays in the Top 5 of D3hoops.com National Poll


The Smith College basketball team remained at No 5 in the latest D3hoops.com and WBCA national poll released earlier this week. 

The Pioneers (17-1, 3-0 NEWMAC) received 514 points in the latest poll and sit behind No. 1 Trinity (Texas), No. 2 Transylvania, No. 3 Christopher Newport and No. 4 Scranton. 

Smith is coming off an impressive 70-60 win over Tufts on Monday night, beating the Jumbos for the first time since the 1995-96 season. The Pioneers received another double-double from Morgan Morrison (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) (21 pts, 12 reb), who was named to the NEWBA Second Weekly Second Team. Also in double-figures for Smith was Jessie Ruffner (Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin) (16 pts), Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif./Fairmont Prep Academy) (14 pts), and Amelia Clairmont (Laconia, N.H./New Hampton School) (11 pts).

Smith is riding an 11-game winning streak and travels to Mount Holyoke College Saturday, January 28 at 1:00pm.. .
