Tiger move up to No. 15 AP poll, set program record

Last season Auburn set a record by achieving the program’s first-ever No. 1 ranking in the AP poll. This Monday they set another record when they were ranked in their 31st straight AP poll, breaking the previous record of 30.

The Tigers (16-3, 6-1 SEC) moved up to No. 15 in the latest poll, up one spot from last week’s ranking.

The previous record was set from Dec. 14, 1998, to Feb. 29, 2000, and the current streak began when the Tigers were ranked 22nd in last season’s preseason poll.

They made sure they were not going to fall out of the top 25 this week with two emphatic road wins. They dominated LSU 67-49, last Wednesday and then beat South Carolina, 81-66, on Saturday. They never trailed in either of the games.

Auburn will return to Neville Arena Wednesday night when it hosts the Texas A&M Aggies (13-6, 5-1) at 8 p.m CT. They will then head to West Virginia to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers (11-8, 1-6 Big 12) in the Big 12/SEC Challenge Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.

The Tigers are one of three SEC teams to be ranked in the top 25. They trail No. 2 Alabama and No. 4 Tennessee. Arkansas, Missouri,  and Kentucky all received votes but did not crack the top 25.
