Pete Nance saves the day

While North Carolina got off to a good start in Tuesday’s win over Syracuse, things got interesting in the final few minutes.

The Tar Heels blew a 10-point lead and fell behind 68-66 with just over 30 seconds to play. After a Judah Mintz bucket to give ‘Cuse the lead, Armando Bacot found a cutting Pete Nance who was fouled going up. Nance made the first free throw and then missed the second.

But he was in the right spot at the right time.

Joe Girard attempted to save the ball from going out of bounds and re-directed it right to Nance’s hands. The forward then laid the ball in the bucket to give UNC the lead.

From there, UNC would go on to make 3 of their next 4 free throws to seal the deal and get a tough road win. They moved to 7-3 in conference play before returning to the court next week to face Pitt and then a road game at Duke.

Nance came up big for UNC, finishing the game with 21 points. But his final two were the biggest in the game by far.
