PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Penn State men’s basketball team (13-7, 4-5 Big Ten) couldn’t get shots to fall as it fell 65-45 to Rutgers on Tuesday night in Jersey Mike’s Arena.
Penn State couldn’t get shots to fall all night, hitting just 4-of-26 3-pointers in the contest. The Nittany Lions won the turnover battle against the Scarlet Knights’ strong defense, but that same defense limited the Nittany Lions to just 33.3 percent from the field in the game.
Jalen Pickett (15), Seth Lundy (12), and Andrew Funk (12) all reached double figures, and the trio combined for 39 of the Nittany Lions’ 45 points. Pickett added eight rebounds and two assists to his line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Seth Lundy scored eight of Penn State’s first 11 points, including two triples, as the Nittany Lions trailed 16-11 at the halfway point of the first half.
- Over the next seven minutes, Rutgers outscored the Nittany Lions 11-6 and led 27-17 with 3:50 remaining, but a quick 5-0 spurt by the Nittany Lions, including Andrew Funk’s first 3-pointer of the game, cut the deficit in half and got Penn State back within five.
- The Nittany Lions took that momentum and ended up with seven of the final 12 points in the half and entered the locker room trailing 32-24.
- Penn State started the half on a 10-5 run to get within three points of the Scarlet Knights with 14:35 left to play. Pickett scored six of the ten for the Nittany Lions.
