As mentioned earlier, Penn State will be a bit of an underdog in New Jersey on Tuesday evening. The ESPN Basketball Power Index gives Penn State just a 20.1% chance of winning, one of the smallest win percentages given to Penn State this season and the smallest outside of the matchup with Purdue.
Rutgers ranks no. 16 in the latest ESPN BPI rankings, while Penn State is just no. 47. With the numbers stacked against them, this would certainly be considered a big win for Shrewsberry and the Penn State program if it can come out of New Jersey with a win.
Coming into the game, Joe Lunardi has Penn State among his first four teams out of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, with Rutgers elevating itself recently to a safe spot above the last four byes in his updated bracketology outlook.
