Florida Signee Laila Reynolds Named McDonald’s All-American


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida signee Laila Reynolds was named a McDonald’s All-American on Tuesday afternoon, making her just the second athlete in Gators’ women’s basketball history to earn the honor.
 
“Today’s announcement of Laila Reynolds being named a McDonald’s All-American marks a monumental moment for Florida women’s basketball,” head coach Kelly Rae Finley said. “As a result of Laila’s commitment, sacrifice and dedication to the game, she is being rewarded today. It’s always inspirational to see young people achieve their goals while trusting the process and we look forward to being a part of her continued success. Reynolds, the No. 19 recruit in the nation, was one of 24 athletes selected to the McDonald’s All-American game, which will take place in Houston on Tuesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. ET. The only other Gator to earn McDonald’s All-American honors was Ronni Williams in 2013, who went on to earn eight spots in the top-15 of Florida’s career record book.
 
“This means the world to me because of how much I worked for it and really just maximizing on the plan and the platform that I have,” Reynolds said. “I’m excited to be playing with and competing against the best, in addition to being recognized with the best of the best. I can’t wait to continue bringing a winning culture to Gator Nation.”
 
During the 2022-23 campaign, the five-star guard has continued to shine for Shabach Christian Academy, leading her team to a Nike Tournament of Champions title where she was named tournament MVP. Reynolds also earned MVP honors at the 2022 Boo Williams Christmas Tournament.
 
In the fall portion of this season, Reynolds finished as the Most Valuable Player for the 2022 Rose Classic Fall League. She was named the captain for the season at Shabach Christian Academy.
 
Last season, Reynolds helped lead New Hope Academy to the GEICO National Championship game while averaging 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She earned the defensive player award for her efforts last season and was named to the All-Tournament First Team.
 
In 2021, Reynolds was named to the McDonald’s Basketball Classic All-Tournament team, in addition to being named the Most Improved Player and earning an Inside Exposure team championship.
