Tar Heels jump back into the top 15

Tar Heels jump back into the top 15

The North Carolina women’s basketball team has jumped up two spots in the latest Associated Presses Top 25 poll.

UNC ranks 15th in this week’s AP Poll after a massive win over No. 13 Duke Blue Devils and a cruising victory over Georgia Tech. North Carolina, now on a five-game win streak, has gained significant momentum and should continue climbing the AP Poll in the upcoming weeks.

Shockingly, UNC stock did not rise more after another impressive week, especially when you look at the teams they beat during their five-game win streak. Notre Dame, NC State, and Duke ranked notable teams North Carolina beat during the span.

UNC’s biggest key to unlocking the win streak has been their fight. They have started games hot, but battling back has been their motto when they do not. One example stems from their win over Notre Dame. After getting outscored 18-9 in the second quarter, UNC bounced back in the second half to upset the Fighting Irish.

North Carolina’s path continues with another significant challenge affecting the following week’s rankings. They hit the road to take on Pittsburgh, which seems like an easy dub for the Tar Heels. However, with a 2-3 road record, a win here is more about winning in challenging environments than being afraid of what the Panthers can do.

Suppose North Carolina can take care of business in Pittsburgh. In that case, I like their chances at extending their win streak into double digits with easier competition on the horizon.
