Kevin Keatts talks about the Leaky Black play

During North Carolinaโ€™s 80-69 win over NC State on Saturday, there was a scary moment that involved Wolfpack guard Terquavion Smith as he landed hard after going up for a layup. On the attempt, UNCโ€™s Leaky Black committed a foul on Smith and was assessed a flagrant 2.

There was clearly no ill intent from Black who said after the game that he hopes Smith is okay and he didnโ€™t do it on purpose. It was a just a hard foul with an unfortunate landing that saw Smith being carried out of the Dean Dome and to the hospital.

Now a few days later, NC State head coach Kevin Keatts commented on the play for the first time after going back and watching it. And he even agrees it wasnโ€™t a dirty play despite Wolfpack Twitter going nuts over the play. Here is what Keatts said on the play:

โ€œI thought it was a good basketball play,โ€ Keatts said. โ€œI donโ€™t think Leaky [Black] did anything intentional to try to harm him at all. I thought it was a really good basketball play. I thought he went for the ball.โ€

Smith was released from the hospital on Saturday and is considered day-to-day for the Wolfpack.

The two teams will meet again on February 19th, this time in Raleigh.
