Fans of the Boston Celtics likely panicked a bit when they heard Jayson Tatum’s response to a question about whether his lingering wrist discomfort might need surgery in the 2023 NBA offseason. “Maybe,” he replied via CLNS Media. “I don’t want to say yes, I don’t want to say no. It’s something we’ve got to look at once the season is over.”
Before you hit the panic button, however, keep in mind Tatum played for the entire postseason last year with the wrist issue, and says that the team is trying to “manage it” given “it does better with rest.”
That explains a significant part of the impetus of holding out the St. Louis native in Boston’s win over the Toronto Raptors earlier this week, and hints Tatum may yet rest on nights to help him manage that discomfort moving forward.
