Buzz Williams’ Post Game Press Conference

Texas A&M didn’t start the 2022-2023 college basketball season off the way that they had hoped, losing five non-conference games in what was one of the worst starts in Head coach Buzz Williams’ tenure with the program. However, something began to change after winning two in a row before heading to Gainsville to face the Florida Gators in a primetime matchup on Wednesday night, and the first SEC game for the Aggies.

Just moments before the game, it was reported that the team forgot their game jerseys at the team hotel, something Williams took full responsibility for after the game, stating,

“I forgot the jerseys in the hotel room. That’s probably the right way to say it because I used to be a manager. So if that would have happened, my manager would have stuck up for me. And so, you don’t want the jerseys to get wrinkled, so they hang them in the room and I just forgot to put them on the bus.”

After about ten minutes passed, Florida was gifted a 1-point free-thrown lead due to the infraction. In what was a hard-fought defensive battle by both squads, the Aggies were led by the scoring trio of Wade Taylor IV (17 pts) Tyrece Radford (17 pts), and Michigan State transfer Julius Marble (17 pts, 6 rebounds), Taylor took over offensively in the final 5 minutes after hitting two clutch layups, while the team cashed in from the free throw line going 18-28 while hitting 11 in the second half to ultimately seal the victory for the maroon and white.

At the end of the game, the team sustained multiple injuries to Manny Obaseki, Henry Coleman, and Andre Gordon, though Obaseki did return to the game.

After the game, Buzz Williams spoke to Andrew Monaco and Dr. John Thornton to discuss the win, while looking towards their home matchup vs. LSU on Saturday afternoon.
