Texas A&M vs. Northwestern State

Texas A&M (6-5) will take on Northwestern State on Tuesday night, as the Aggies are in somewhat of a tailspin after starting only one game over .500 in 11 non-conference matchups. With just two games left before facing Florida on the road at the start of SEC play, Head coach Buzz Williams is surely under pressure in his worst start since his first season with the program after enduring one of the more embarrassing losses in his career last Tuesday, falling to Wofford 67-62.

Make no mistake, Northwestern State is no slouch, sitting at an impressive 8-4 on the season so far, recently beating Rice 110-73, while only losing by ten to the 12th-ranked Baylor Bears 58-48 last week. The Demons are 4-3 on the road this season, while ranking 5th in the Southland Conference with 72.5 ppg, and shooting an impressive 40.3 % from the field, and 35.8 % from 3-point. They are led by senior guard Demarcus Sharp, leading the program with 16.3 ppg, and 3.8 assists.

For the Aggies, their undefeated home streak against non-conference opponents came to an end last week, now standing at 4-1. Led by sophomore guard Wade Taylor IV, averaging 15.9 ppg, and 3.7 assists, the ascending playmaker stated last week:

“It’s early. We still have time to correct some of those bumps. I’m glad it’s happening early.”

And while he may be half-correct in his assessment, the early losses could spell post-season doom unless the Aggies get back to their winning ways starting tomorrow, and continues into SEC play. Outside of Taylor, senior guard Tyrece Radford needs to get his groove back, scoring only 13 points in his last two games, both losses.

Texas A&M is currently a -16.5 point home favorite and the game with air on SEC Network at 6:00 PM CT.
