Tar Heels take down Michigan in Charlotte

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball kept their winning ways going on Wednesday night in the inaugural Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte with a 80-76 win over Michigan. And they did so on the back of Armando Bacot.

The senior forward finished the game with 26 points and 5 rebounds, helping power the Tar Heels to a win.

After a back-and-forth game in the first half, the Tar Heels were able to get into a bit of a rhythm. UNC found a way to erase an 8-point deficit and grab a 41-34 lead of their own at halftime. In the second half, UNC was able to grab control and never relinquish it.

The Tar Heels built up a nine-point lead in the second half, holding Michigan without a field goal for six points. While the Wolverines cut the lead down to three at one point, UNC was able to hold the lead thanks to a few key plays by R.J. Davis. For the second-straight game, Davis helped the Tar Heels get a win with some key plays down the stretch.

The junior guard finished the game with 19 points. Fellow guard Caleb Love had 18.

As a team, UNC shot 50 percent from the field including 35 percent from the three-point line. While that was a good thing to see, the free throw shooting struggled. The Tar Heels made just 55.6% of their free throws, a big reason why they really couldn’t extend the lead much wider.

The win moved UNC to 9-4 on the year ahead of conference play. They have a week off before heading to Pitt to face the Panthers on December 30th.
