No. 6 WBB Set For Meeting With Michigan


CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ€“ The North Carolina women’s basketball team will take on a ranked opponent for the fourth time this season when it meets No. 19 Michigan Tuesday evening in the Jumpman Invitational. Tipoff at the Spectrum Center is 7 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN2.

The inaugural event runs on Tuesday and Wednesday and includes the men’s and women’s teams from four Jordan Brand schools: UNC, Michigan, Florida and Oklahoma. The Oklahoma and Florida men face off on Tuesday after the UNC-Michigan women’s game. On Wednesday, the UNC and Michigan men meet at 7 p.m. with the Florida and Oklahoma women’s game to follow.

The Tar Heels (9-1) moved up a spot to sixth in this week’s Associated Press poll, announced on Monday.

Carolina’s last action was an 89-47 victory over USC Upstate on Friday. The Tar Heels have played the last three games at home, winning all three. Tuesday’s game is the fourth of five in a row that UNC will play in the state.

The Tar Heels made the short trip to Charlotte on Sunday and were greeted by a wave of UNC-branded Jumpman gear. On Monday in Charlotte, UNC worked out at the Charlotte Hornets’ practice facility, adjacent to the Spectrum Center. In the evening, the Tar Heels joined all of the participating teams for an event at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

โ€ข This marks just the second time that UNC and Michigan have met in women’s basketball, with the first a Carolina win in Chapel Hill in 1987.

โ€ข The Wolverines come into the matchup at 10-1, with their most recent action a 77-49 win over Appalachian State at home on Saturday.

โ€ข Four Tar Heels are averaging between 15.4 and 13.2 points per game and all rank in the ACC’s top 15: Deja Kelly tied for seventh (15.4 ppg), Alyssa Ustby and Kennedy Todd-Williams tied for ninth (14.3 ppg) and Eva Hodgson 15th (13.2 ppg).
