Iwuala Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after Return to Hardwood

SAN FRANCISCO – Christeen Iwuala has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 5-11. The freshman forward returned to action against Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 10 after missing two-consecutive games (Nov. 29 at No. 1 South Carolina, Dec. 3 at UC Santa Barbara) due to injury and earns the 10th all-time Freshman of the Week honor for UCLA.

Iwuala scored 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting, her best mark to date. The Texan matched season highs in field goals attempted (6 FGA), free throws made (2 FTM) and rebounds (8 REB) while setting new personal highs in minutes played (22 MIN), points (10 PTS) and field goals made (4 FGM).

With the honor, UCLA has earned consecutive Pac-12 Freshman of the Week awards (previous: Kiki Rice, Dec. 5) and taken home four the 10 weekly awards through the first five weeks of the season. The Bruins last earned two Freshman of the Week honors during the 2017-18 season when Michaela Onyenwere was a rookie (Jan. 15, 2018; Feb. 12, 2018). UCLA had back-to-back Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honorees in the 2014-15 season when Jordin Canada played her first year for the blue and gold (Jan. 12, 2015; Jan. 19, 2015).
