IWBF Classification Rules Transition Provision Extension Approved – IWBF

FIBA and IWBF intensify partnership - IWBF

The dates for the transition provision in the 2021 IWBF Player Classification Rules have been extended due to the postponement of the 2022 IWBF World Championships.

The rationale to implement the Transition Provision, which was originally in place until 31 December 2022, in the new 2021 IWBF Player Classification Rules was to ensure that the integrity of the qualification process for the 2022 World Championships was maintained together with the consideration of players’ welfare, allowing a reasonable amount of notice for players to adjust to the changes and a period to exit out of the sport on the international stage.

IWBF submitted a request to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to extend the Classification Transition Provisions due to the postponement of the 2022 IWBF World Championships outside of the original set dates of the transition provision.

The IPC Classification Committee and the IPC Governing Board considered our request to extend the transition period from 31 December 2022 to 30 June 2023 and it has been approved by the IPC Governing Board.

The approval means that any Player with the Sport Class Status Review (Transition) (RT) or Confirmed (Transition) (CT) are able to continue to compete at IWBF-governed events until 30 June 2023. The latest version of the IWBF Official Player Classification Rules with the modified dates will come into effect from the 12 December 2022.

Below are thesummary of changes to the IWBF Player Classification Rules and Manual.
