Several Questions That Need Answers

UNC Basketball travels back home from Bloomington with several questions that need answers after the 77-65 loss to Indiana.

To say the 2022-2023 season has not gone as planned is a major understatement. Before we get into a number of questions that need to be answered, let’s be clear about a few things.

First, it is still early enough and as we saw last year, this team can turn an entire season around. Second, Indiana bullied the UNC basketball program with a suffocating defense that caused them to be off the entire game. Lastly, North Carolina made a very long trip after playing a very long game on Sunday.

With that out of the way, let’s look at some serious questions that need to be answered.

Last season the lack of depth was obvious. That was supposed to be different this season. With a number of additions to the roster and the “jump” that should take place with existing players, why is the bench not being used more?

What have Tyler Nickel and Dontrez Styles done or not done to be buried so deep on the bench?

In a game that got out of hand pretty early, why not develop those players and get them minutes?

What is the offensive strategy? Is there one or is it simply RJ Davis and Caleb Love creating?

Is Hubert calling plays but they are not being run or is this the offensive plan?

Where is the toughness and punch that Hubert talked about in the tournament last year?

Is the low shooting percentages for Davis and Love due to shot selection or slumps?

Is Armando Bacot healthy?

If he is healthy, why is the offense not being initiated through the post first?

Why are the rebounds and assists down so much from previous seasons?

How much does this team miss Brady Manek?

Will Coach Davis be able to find a solid rotation and soon?

These are just a few of the questions that will need to be answered quickly. Otherwise, this season and all of the goals for this team will be out of reach.
