SOUTH BEND, Ind. – There’s not a better place for the Notre Dame men’s basketball (6-1) team to kick off ACC play on Saturday than inside Purcell Pavilion – where they have been a problem for opposing teams over the past two seasons. ND will lean on the Irish faithful to make sure league play starts on the right note, with Syracuse (3-4) first up. Tip inside Purcell is scheduled for Noon ET and will air live on ESPN2.

Notre Dame also looks to shorten the gap in the series record between the two, trailing 23-31. The last time these two linked up, the Irish walked away with the 76-69 victory at home.

NATE THE GREAT

How about nearly doubling your scoring average from a year ago – a career best 16.9 ppg – ranks 5th in the ACC. In fact, Laszewski ranks in the top-10 of six different stastical categories in the ACC — 7th in rebounds (8.6), 3rd in FG% (.545), 9th in 3PT FG% (.429), 3rd in FT% (.872), 2nd in defensive rebounds (7.7). Moreso, his 7.7 defensive rebounds per game rank 13th in the country.

He’s 1-of-6 players in the country averaging at least 15 points, 8 rebounds while shooting over 40.0 percent from three — 1-of-3 from a Power-Five team – Iowa’s Kris Murray and Alabama’s Brandon Miller.

SCOREMAC RYAN

The Michigan State game on Nov. 30 saw the return of the Scoremac. He was a man possessed in the first half, scoring 20 of the team’s 42 points in which they boasted a 42-24 lead. Thus he nearly outscored the Spartans that half. He went 5-for-5 from deep and 7-of-8 overall. He ultimately finished the game with season high 23 points and a perfect 6-for-6 from three.

And Ryan is no stranger to that kind of performance. He went 7-for-9 from three in the big NCAA Tournament win over Alabama last March, scoring 29 points.

All-in-all, since joining the Irish starting lineup on Feb. 9, 2022, Ryan has averaged 12.7 ppg (carrying over into this season as well).

This season, he’s gone 4-for-7 in double-digit scoring performances, plus the game-winning basket against Radford.

NEW COURT, SAME HOME ADVANTAGE

Notre Dame’s court may have gotten a facelift this offseason and sport a new look, but the same home-court advantage still applies.

Last season, the Irish…
