Dario Saric recalls being surprised, confused when Sixers traded him

PHILADELPHIA–Currently, Dario Saric is a member of the Phoenix Suns these days. However, before that, he began his career with the Philadelphia 76ers where he played in 172 games with 122 started over the course of three seasons.

He was a big part of the team in the 2017-18 season when he averaged 14.6 points and 6.7 rebounds as a starter next to Joel Embiid and he helped the team reach Round 2 of the playoffs. He was considered one of the top players on the team and was looking to help Philadelphia take the next step in the Eastern Conference.

13 games into his third season with the team, Philadelphia traded him along with Robert Covington to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the big Jimmy Butler trade. It was a move that had to be made, but Saric discussed his initial emotions after the deal.

“I was kind of surprised. I didn’t know what to expect. It was the first time that happened in the middle of the season. I never thought it can happen like that, but you feel that it’s part of the job and you kinda move on, but the first impression was I don’t understand because there was my thoughts on the first, but generally, it’s part of the job. After a couple days, you move on, you need to focus a new team, new teammates, and try to be the best that you can there so it’s all part of the job. At first, it didn’t feel that way.”

“A good young team. A lot of potential was there. I think we had a good team for the long term. Particularly, the role players with the good stars on the team. I don’t know. That’s what I saw, but generally, somebody else didn’t see it and the trade happened. That’s only one part.”

“Sometimes, Furkan (Korkmaz), I talk to some of these guys. Especially, when I come to the city, I say hi to everybody. No really great connections. Maybe Furkan only.”

“It’s always good. I had some great memories back in the day. Hang out with people I know before the game. The gym is a little bit different, they renovated it, the fans are the same. Always cheering hard for the Sixers, like always, and I’m feeling great. It’s part of basketball. Sometimes you’ll come in a city will mean for you so the city means for me so it’s better to come and see people I know and remember some great history what I had here.”
