Men’s Hoops Begins Season with Back-to-Back Road Games


ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s basketball team kicks off the 2022-23 season with back-to-back road games against Towson on Monday night and Immaculata Tuesday night. Both games will be aired on ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team in Albany.

UAlbany faced two local schools, Skidmore and Saint Rose, in exhibition play to start the year. The Great Danes defeated Skidmore on Nov. 1 by a score of 71-69 before defeating Saint Rose days later, 73-66
 
Against Skidmore, The Great Danes played their first ever game at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College – the site of this year’s home contests as SEFCU Arena undergoes renovations. Da’Kquan Davis led all scorers with 20 points, going 6-17 from the field. Gerald Drumgoole Jr. paced the Great Danes with eight rebounds, seven of which came off the defensive boards. Skidmore took a 32-30 lead into the locker room at halftime before the Great Danes came back in the second half, outscoring their opponent 41-37.
 
Against Saint Rose, Davis once again led the Great Danes in scoring with another 20-point performance, shooting 7-14 from the field. Sarju Patel followed with 14 points, going 3-10 from beyond the arc.

Scouting Towson

Towson is coming off of a dominant season in which the team went 25-9 overall and 15-3 in conference play. The year ended on a low note for the Tigers however, getting bounced by Delaware in the CAA tournament followed by a quick exit in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) at the hands of Wake Forest. This season, the Tigers were chosen first in the CAA poll – receiving 12 of the 13 first place votes, as coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Towson also placed three on the All-CAA Preseason First Team with Nicolas Timberlake, Charles Thompson, and Cam Holden earning the distinction.
