Hokies open 2022-23 campaign on Monday night inside Cassell


BLACKSBURG โ€“ย The reigning ACC champions will take their home court for the first time since raising the trophy in March, as the Hokies host Delaware State on Monday night at Cassell Coliseum.

Monday night will be the first of two nights celebrating Virginia Tech’s ACC title. Fans can take a photo with the ACC Tournament trophy on the concourse during the game, while early arriving students can pick up an ACC title tumbler while supplies last.
ย 
Gates will open at 8 p.m. for Monday’s game. Lot 1 (Cassell Lot) will be open to the public for Monday’s doubleheader on first-come, first-serve basis.

  • The seventh-seeded Hokies became the lowest seed to ever win the ACC Tournament, doing so by knocking off the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 1 seeds in consecutive days in Brooklyn.ย 
  • Tech’s only other conference tournament title in program history is the 1979 Metro Conference championship, defeating Florida State 68-60 in the final.ย

FIVE STRAIGHT TICKETS PUNCHED

  • The Hokies are among the nation’s leaders in active NCAA Tournament appearances. With their program record fifth straight appearance locked up in 2022, they own the eighth-longest active streak. It’s the second-longest among ACC programs (North Carolina โ€“ย 11).

  • Tech landed Grant Basile (Wright State), John Camden (Memphis) and Mylyjael Poteat (Rice) out of the transfer portal in the offseason.ย
