Orange Host Le Moyne in Lone Exhibition Game Thursday

The Syracuse women’s basketball team is set for a preseason exhibition game against neighboring Le Moyne College on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome. Fans will have a first look at a reconstructed Orange squad under first-year head coach and Syracuse alumna Felisha Legette-Jack ’89. Those unable to attend can watch the game live online on ACCNX through the ESPN app.

Legette-Jack’s squad returns four letterwinners from a year ago including All-ACC Honorable Mention selection Teisha Hyman. Hyman led the Orange in every major statistical category last season including points, rebounds, assists and steals while ranking fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in points per game (16.2).

Eight transfers and two freshmen compile the Orange newcomers. Dyaisha Fair, an All-America Honorable Mention selection a season ago and top-four scorer in the nation is one of four players who made the journey from Buffalo east down I-90 with their former UB head coach. Fair averaged 23.1 points per game in her three seasons at Buffalo and shot 40.4 percent from the field as a junior last year. Alongside Fair on the ride down the New York State thruway is Georgia Woolley who was named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Freshman of the Year, Saniaa Wilson, and Cheyenne McEvans.

Syracuse lacked height and depth at the post last season and Legette-Jack called upon a trio of grad transfers, Asia Strong (Wichita State), Olivia Owens (Kentucky), and Dariauna Lewis (Alabama A&M) to enhance Syracuse’s play in the front court this season.

Two freshman guards, Lexi McNabb and Kennedi Perkins, also look to make an impact as they further add to Syracuse’s already skilled backcourt.

The Orange named their captains for the season last week. Fair and Hyman are joined by Temple transfer and Buffalo, N.Y., native Kyra Wood as the team’s trio of elected captains for the 2022-23 campaign.

Le Moyne posted a 17-8 record last season under first year head coach Mary Grimes. Grimes, a former Syracuse assistant coach from 2005-10, took her Dolphin squad to the NCAA Division II Tournament and won six of their finale nine regular season games last year.
