Tar Heels Ring In New Season At 'Live Action'

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Coming off an appearance in the NCAA Tournament championship game last season, the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team tipped of the new campaign at “Live Action with Carolina Basketball” on Friday night.

The Tar Heels and the UNC women’s basketball team rang in the new hoops year in the Smith Center. Both teams were introduced to the crowd and participated in a co-ed three-point shooting contest before the men’s team played a 30-minute scrimmage. The White team, led by Armando Bacot, Pete Nance, Leaky Black and RJ Davis, topped the Blue, 61-47. Freshman wing Tyler Nickel made a splash, hitting several three-pointers and unofficially leading the Blue in scoring.

Carolina players and staff also received their 2022 Final Four rings on Friday night:

Second-year head coach Hubert Davis returns four starters from last year’s 29-10 team, including senior big man Armando Bacot, graduate student defensive ace Leaky Black and junior guards RJ Davis and Caleb Love.

Carolina will return to action in three weeks on Friday October 28 in an exhibition game in the Smith Center against Johnson C. Smith University. The Tar Heels will tip off the ’22-’23 regular season on Monday November 7 at home against UNCW.
