Preseason observations on five Eastern Conference teams.

Health & deep roster looking good so far for Philly

I expect the Sixers to earn a high seed in the 2023 playoffs thanks to their extremely talented roster, but the real basketball starts during the postseason for this group.

Toronto’s Pascal Siakam ready to hit prime, Scottie Barnes improving jumper

Pascal Siakam & Scottie Barnes looked great over the summer at UCLA during the Rico Hines runs. Siakam displayed a dominant scoring package while Barnes showed off an improved jump shot.

Alex Caruso staying healthy will mean even more for Bulls without Lonzo Ball

Chicago needs Alex Caruso to be Superman on both ends now that Lonzo Ball will miss significant time. He’s definitely capable of it. So I hope he can stay healthy.

Steve Nash is right, Ben Simmons doesn’t have to shoot

Nets head coach Steve Nash recently said that he doesn’t care if Ben Simmons shoots a jumper, and I can see why. Ben is a great playmaker & defender on a team with two of the NBA’s best scorers. As long as he sets his teammates up for quality shots and defends the other team’s best players, then I don’t really see his lack of shooting becoming a problem next to KD & Kyrie.

Cavs need a legit wing defender to go along with Jarrett Allen & Evan Mobley

Isaac Okoro & Lamar Stevens have developed into solid defenders, but they’re gonna have to keep getting better for Cleveland to make any noise in the playoffs. Their progression/if the Cavs add another wing defender should be interesting.
