Joel Embiid, Sixers notice a different Matisse Thybulle to begin camp

CHARLESTON, S.C.–The Philadelphia 76ers got back to work on Thursday as they continued training camp in Charleston, SC. The Sixers have a ton of expectations for the coming season as they improved their depth and supporting cast around the star duo of Joel Embiid and James Harden.

Even with the new additions, some of the mainstays will have to step up and play a part in this team’s success in the future.

Matisse Thybulle will be one of those important mainstays as he gets set for his fourth season in the league. He has already established himself as one of the better perimeter defenders in the league, but it is on the offensive end where he ahs got to make some strides in order to improve.

Thybulle revealed that he was working on his shot all summer and so far to begin camp, Embiid, and his teammates are noticing a difference.

“I’m so proud of him. So far, you can tell he’s put in the work all summer. He’s been amazing. Obviously, he needs to keep going when it matters, but he’s made a lot of improvement and that’s what we want. That’s what we want from everybody on this team and he’s been doing an amazing job.”

“He’s working on his shot. Yesterday (Wednesday), he had a great offensive day. He made three or four 3s, shooting the ball well. Today (Thursday), he didn’t make any and that’s OK. What I like is when he misses one, you don’t notice. They swung it to him on the next play and he shot it again so those are positive steps.”

“He’s been great at that. We do a drill, one of our skill development guys we worked on, we call it, I hate to give Avery Bradley this much credit, but we literally call it the Avery Bradley drill because we think he’s one of the better cutters ever. We’ve been working on it all summer with certain guys and they’ve been doing a great job of it.”

“Just looking for his shot. Understanding that we need him to continue taking those shots and make them, but the biggest thing is just being a threat. Just shooting them so I thought he’s done a great job of that. Yesterday, he makes them, today, guys close out on him and he goes to the rim so that’s usually how the game goes.”

“Matisse is doing a helluva job picking the ball up full court. That’s something he’s never done. I called him in the middle of the summer and said ‘Can you guard the ball full…
