For someone like Russell Westbrook, the outside noises don’t really matter for as long as he’s playing and trying to attain the highest level of what he can contribute.

This belief and notion remains the same, whether he’s being wanted or not by the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I don’t need to,” Westbrook answered when asked if he feels he’s being wanted by the Lakers, via ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “I need to just do my job. Whether I’m wanted or not doesn’t really matter. I think the most important thing is that I show up for work and I do the job like I’ve always done it: Be professional and go out and play my ass off and compete.”

Westbrook, who exercised his $47.1 million player option to remain intact with the Lakers this upcoming season, has been the frequently mentioned one around the league’s trade murmurs. Following a dramatic season filled by drama, injuries, disappointment and inability to mesh up, the All-star guard has been battered by major criticism on his first year with his hometown team.

As he is back and appears energetic to work again, his position in the team still remains uncertain. After the acquisition made by the franchise for Patrick Beverley and Dennis Schroeder, rumors have shifted that he might possibly find himself leading the Lakers’ bench mob.

For now, he is preparing to embrace whatever will happen next in the continuing chapter of his career.

“I’m all-in on whatever it takes for this team to win,” Westbrook said. “I’m prepared for whatever comes my way.”

With the Lakers having a backcourt logjam, it is indeed questionable what will be their adjustment for Westbrook. But with new season coming nearer, they can only hope that things would work out accordingly as what they are planning.
