Shooting. Shooting. Shooting.

When the Thunder added renowned shooting coach Chip Engelland to their staff this past offseason, the first player that immediately crossed the mind of fans was Josh Giddey.

It’s well known that shooting is Giddey’s biggest weakness in his offensive bag right now, so adding Engelland could pay massive dividends.

It’s unrealistic to expect immediate results from Giddey after spending just a couple of months with Engelland; reshaping a player’s shooting form is a multi-year process that could differ in results due to variables out of the player’s control like luck.

But I don’t think it’s totally unfair to expect at least some improvement from Giddey. The improvement doesn’t need to be tangible results either — it can be in his shot base looking better and his process of shooting the ball from deep improving. Preseason and training camp will be the most relaxed environments all season long where Giddey can experiment without fearing results.

Regardless, the shooting dilemma with Giddey won’t be answered during training camp or this upcoming season, really. It will be a multi-year process that can produce various results because shooting can be an inconsistent skill.
