For those that remember the years between the Allen Iverson era and “The Process” let me take you back to when the Philadelphia 76ers acquired a young shooting guard from the Milwaukee Bucks. That shooting guard was Jodie Meeks who had a short, but good stint with the Sixers.

Former Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard Meeks is done playing professional ball.

That was back in the 2009-10 season, and it’s currently 2022. Meeks has played a lot of basketball, including playing for Team USA this past offseason. In a recent interview with Steve Drumwright, Meeks revealed his time playing professional basketball has come to an end.

“I’m young, but in basketball, I’m a little older,…I’m no spring chicken anymore. But that’s OK. I can still move, I still feel like I can still play. And obviously I’m out here doing well. So for my career, it’s definitely been a good one and this will be the icing on the cake.”

It should be noted, that Meeks hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2018-19 season when he won a title with the Toronto Raptors. However, last year he did play for the Raptors G-League affiliate the Raptors 905. He was even a potential free agent target I had this offseason.

Meeks was originally drafted by the Bucks and then traded to Philly during his rookie season. He played two more seasons with the 76ers after that year. During his time with the Sixers he started 114 out of 159 games played. He averaged 9.1 points on 38.3 percent 3-point shooting.

Meeks went on to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, and Raptors during his NBA career. He has a career average of 9.3 points on 37.3 percent shooting from deep.

According to Drumwright, Meeks will now be joining the coaching staff for the New Orleans Pelicans G-League affiliate the Birmingham Squadron.

While he was never an All-Star, Meeks was a good role player and as a fromer Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard we from The Sixer Sense wish him nothing but the best as he turns a new chapter in life.
