Gray to Participate in 2022 Women’s National Team Training Camp


DURHAM – Former Duke women’s basketball standout Chelsea Gray has been selected as one of 29 athletes to participate in the 2022 USA Basketball Women’s National Team training camp from Sept. 6-12 in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
Training camp will be highlighted by the 2022 USA Basketball Showcase Presented by Coinbase on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT at Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.
 
Gray was a member of the USA Basketball Women’s National Team that took home the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She posted splits of 7.3 points, 3.2 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game for USA Basketball during the Olympic run, including a tournament-best 14 points in the semifinals against Serbia and a six point, four assist effort in the gold medal contest versus Japan.
 
The four-time WNBA All-Star opens playoff action Wednesday night against the Phoenix Mercury at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN. Gray closed out the regular season with a spectacular performance of 33 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in a 109-100 victory over the Seattle Storm. The 2022 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup MVP averaged 13.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game during the regular season while helping lead the Aces to a 26-10 record.
 
Gray won’t be the only one representing the Blue Devils in Las Vegas, as Duke women’s basketball head coach Kara Lawson was previously announced as an assistant coach for the 2022 USA Basketball Women’s National Team that will compete at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
 
The 2022 FIBA World Cup, featuring 12 of the best national teams in the world, is scheduled for Sept. 22-Oct. 1 in Sydney. The USA will look to win its fourth consecutive World Cup dating back to 2010. The 2022 USA Basketball Women’s National Team will be announced prior to the start of group play.
