Wyc Grousbeck describes Celtics as a strongly contending team as-is

If the Boston Celtics are angling to make a major trade by dealing for disgruntled Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, there hasn’t been much in the way of signs the team is interested coming from sources close to the team, nor now, in a recent interview with WBZ’s Dan Roche, the team’s principal owner Wyc Grousbeck.

The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach recently shot down reports via a source close to the team that Boston had ever entertained any serious offers for KD, instead suggesting the focus was on finishing up the roster they have at present. Grousbeck echoed those sentiments in his conversation with Roche. “We can win this thing, possibly,” offered the Celtics governor.

“We have a chance to contend — that’s their words,” he added. “They are burning with a desire to make it come true.” If that was vague enough to leave room for interpretation, Grousbeck later made it evident Boston is happy with the team they have put together this offseason.

“We think our roster right now is a strongly contending team,” he explained. “Ime loves the group, Brad loves the group, I love the group. The group is very cohesive.”
