Former Sixers guard Dakota Mathias lands with Grizzlies on a deal

The 2020-21 season was a wild one in the NBA as every team was working through the murky waters of the pandemic. The Philadelphia 76ers were one of those teams as they were hit with a lot of players in the league’s health and safety protocols in the early part of the season.

Therefore, they needed to rely on a lot of younger players in order to get through games and one of those players was Dakota Mathias. Philadelphia signed the young man out of Purdue to a two-way deal before the season started and he played in eight games for the Sixers with two starts while playing a big role in a win over the Miami Heat.

The Sixers then waived Mathias and after playing six games for the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2021-22 season on 10-day deals, he will now get another opportunity in Memphis on an exhibit 10 deal.

Mathias will look to continue his NBA journey after starting off in Philadelphia, but the team just did not have the opportunities available for him.
