BERKELEY – The Cal women’s basketball team is set to embark on a preseason foreign tour to Spain and Croatia from Aug. 11-21, the Bears are scheduled to play three games over the 10-day trip.

Cal is tentatively scheduled to play the Madrid All-Stars on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. CET/10:30 a.m. PT. On Tuesday, Aug. 16 the Bears will take on Matano Select in Barcelona at 8:00 p.m. CET/11:00 a.m. PT. Cal will wrap up its trio of contests in Split, Croatia taking on KK Tresnjevka on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m. CET/8:30 a.m. PT.

“The European Tour is an opportunity for our team to bond as we experience new places and cultures together,” said head coach Charmin Smith. “With five newcomers, then 10 days of NCAA-approved practice time for our trip allowed the team to get acclimated with each other and the program faster than normal. This trip serves as a springboard to the 2022-23 season.”

The trip has special significance for the four European players on the squad, allowing them to play in front of their families. Sophomore forward Claudia Langarita will get to play host for her teammates showing her around her hometown of Barcelona. Langarita spent her summer helping Spain win gold in the FIBA U20 European Championship.

The NCAA allows teams to make an international trip every four years. The Bears most recently made a trip to play in Australia and New Zealand in the summer of 2017.
