Hogs target sets commitment date

Anthony Black sets signing date

Arkansas Men’s Basketball signed a historic class for the 2022 cycle, with all six high school signees rated four-star or higher, three of those were McDonald’s All-Americans.

Head Coach Eric Musselman is off to a great start in his efforts to duplicate the success of his 2022 signings, as four-star guard Layden Blocker has already pledged to Arkansas.

The 2023 class could receive a boost by landing the commitment of a four-star combo guard on August 2.

Chris Johnson, a four-star guard from Missouri City, Texas has announced that he will be making his college choice on Tuesday, August 2, and Arkansas is in the mix to land him.

In a recent interview with On3, Johnson says that he is looking for a school that will allow him to show what he can do on the court early.

“I’m going to be looking for a brotherhood,” Johnson said. “I want to into a program that will allow me to come in and compete. The location won’t matter, as long as they will let me get out there and play; that is all I can ask for.”

Along with Arkansas, Johnson is considering Kansas, Ole Miss, and Alabama. He visited Arkansas last year, but the visit was considered unofficial. When it comes to Arkansas, Johnson says that he is considering them because of the positive trajectory of the program.

“They got three McDonald’s All-Americans (Nick Smith, Jordan Walsh, Anthony Black) this year, and I know each of them,” Johnson said. “I like coach (Eric) Musselman. He has been recruiting me hard for the past year, and I just really like their program and what they are doing.”

Johnson is a 6-5, 180 guard from Montverde Academy in Missouri City, Texas. He is currently the No. 8 guard for the 2023 cycle, and the No. 3 prospect from the state of Texas according to 247Sports.
